HSBC Mauritius appoints Hajrah Sakauloo as CEO and Head of Banking

HSBC Mauritius is proud to announce the appointment of Hajrah Sakauloo as its new Chief Executive Officer and Head of Banking, effective 01 March 2025.

Hajrah Sakauloo succeeds Greg Lowden, who played a pivotal role at HSBC Mauritius during a transformative period. His tenure included the successful divestment of the bank’s retail banking operations and the migration of 38,000 customers to Absa Bank (Mauritius) Ltd. This divestment saw the bank’s alignment to serving international corporate and institutional clients leveraging the bank’s international network.

In her new role, Hajrah will oversee business growth, client engagement and the execution of HSBC Mauritius’ strategy. She will also lead the bank’s operational and governance framework, regulatory compliance and people strategies.

Hajrah is a Fellow of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants. Since joining HSBC in 1997, she has played a pivotal role across Operations, Custody & Clearing, Credit Risk, Corporate and Institutional Banking, and Global Banking and Markets, with a strong emphasis on global business. In her most recent position as Head of Wholesale Banking, she led strategic growth initiatives for clients ranging from international corporations to mid-sized enterprises.

Speaking on her appointment, she said: “I am honoured to lead the HSBC Mauritius team. Over the years, we have built a strong foundation of trusted relationships with our customers, and I am committed to strengthening those bonds alongside my colleagues. HSBC Mauritius is connected to 58 markets and this positions us to deliver the best-in-class solutions that businesses need in the international marketplace. With our recognition as the Best Trade Bank by Euromoney and Global Finance, we will continue striving for excellence and innovation in everything we do.”

Commenting on Hajrah Sakauloo’s appointment, Philip Fellowes, Chairman, HSBC Mauritius, said: “We thank Greg for his leadership and dedication as CEO of HSBC Mauritius. His contributions have been key to the bank’s success and its reputation as a trusted partner. We are delighted to welcome Hajrah as the new CEO of HSBC Mauritius. Her extensive client expertise and international experience make her exceptionally well suited to lead HSBC Mauritius. This is a significant milestone for our bank, and we are confident that, under Hajrah’s leadership, HSBC Mauritius will continue to deliver market-leading international corporate and institutional banking services to our valued customers.”
