Mauritius based Gateway Real Estate Africa (“GREA”), the development subsidiary of Mauritius and London-listed Grit Real Estate Income Group Limited (“Grit” or “the Company”) received no less than four top awards at the prestigious Africa Property Investment Summit 2022, held in Johannesburg, South Africa on September 21, 2022.
Bronwyn Knight, CEO of Grit commented:
“Being recognised for excellence by global peers is probably one of the biggest compliments a company can hope for, and we are exceptionally proud of what GREA has achieved in a relatively short space of time.
As an impact real estate investor, our success is based on collaboration and a shared vision involving all elements of the value chain, from internal staff teams to professional services providers, contractors, regulators, tenants and of course the communities in which we operate.”
GREA made a clean sweep at the awards, winning four out of the five categories it was shortlisted in, including:
- Top Africa CEO of the Year awarded to GREA co-founder and CEO, Greg Pearson,
- Top Woman in Real Estate awarded to GREA chief operating officer, Shevira Bissessor,
- Top Commercial Office development for Adumuah Place in Ghana, and
- Top High-End Residential development for Rosslyn Grove, a 90-apartment diplomatic housing development on behalf of the US Government’s Overseas Building Operations.
Greg Pearson, CEO and co-founder of GREA commented:
“Receiving this recognition on a global platform is truly humbling as our delivery this year was a collective effort by each team member, contractor and tenant. Ultimately the winners are the communities and economies we serve as we continue to grow sustainable Impact Real Estate that surpasses physical assets.
I’m privileged to work with a team and contractors who share the vision for African real estate that goes beyond buildings! It’s as a result of their commitment, innovation and grit that we managed to deliver exceptional developments within on time and within budget despite significant supply chain challenges as a result of the pandemic.
I am very proud that our developments not only supported the communities in which we operate in but have made our business so much more sustainable.
Shevira Bissessor, GREA Chief Operating Officer said:
“As a woman working in a male dominated sector, these awards provide a platform for education and collaboration. I’m super proud to be part of a woman-led team trailblazing property development in Africa!
I’m also super proud that Rosslyn Grove, our diplomatic housing development in Nairobi, Kenya, was recognised as the Best High-End Residential development at the awards.
Gateway Real Estate Africa’s focus extends beyond buildings, empowering women in the build environment. During the construction of Rosslyn Grove, almost 25% of all labour, professional and management services comprised of women.”
In Mauritius, GREA is developing The Precinct in Grand Baie, a 10 000m2 re-imaged workspace for modern business that integrates a work, live, play environment. The Precinct was recently awarded a 5-Star Green rating by the Green Building Council South Africa (GBCSA). It is the first ever 5-star green rated development in Mauritius, and the first 5-star green rated office development in the Indian Ocean islands.
GREA is currently also developing a private healthcare facility in Curepipe with a capacity of approximately 68 beds. The facility will service the general hospital demand for quality medical care and will be an important support facility positioned alongside the Oncology focused Coromandel Hospital, which will also be developed by GREA.
