COREL sets up centre of excellence in Mauritius, gears up to collaborate with academic institutions

Corel is set to recruit approximately 200 Mauritians for Customer Support, R&D, and Operations roles as it prepares to launch its operations in Nexsky, Ebene, in July 2022. Corel is globally renowned for its brands such as CorelDRAW, Parallels, MindManager, and WinZip. To kick off the recruitment phase and to encourage and motivate final-year tech students to apply for internships and jobs, Corel introduced the company to students at Polytechnics Mauritius, Reduit campus on May 30, 2022.

Corel  is a world leader in professional creativity and productivity solutions and is setting up operations in Mauritius as its first footprint in Africa. Corel chose Mauritius as the home for its centre of excellence because of its favourable business environment and policies, exceptional resources, universities, and many other beneficial factors. Additionally, Corel is aware that the Government of Mauritius has invested heavily in world-class infrastructure and the local labour market is impressive.

On that note, to start engaging with the future generation and young tech enthusiasts in Mauritius, Corel and Polytechnics Mauritius hosted an event at the Polytechnics’ Reduit campus on May 30, 2022, where students had the opportunity to meet some of Corel’s core team members visiting from Canada and the USA. They learned about the company’s leading brands and networked and interacted with the senior executives who were present.

Speaking at the event, Prashant Ketkar, Chief Technology and Product Officer at Corel, stated, “We chose Mauritius to grow our business after an extensive search to find a new location for our Centre of Excellence that was well aligned with our product-led growth strategy.  Corel is excited to grow our presence in Mauritius and is currently recruiting approximately 200 new team members to be hired locally. This location will also serve to support our expansion in the African tech industry. We are extremely happy to be here at the Polytechnics Mauritius campus and to interact with the students. We want to invest in Mauritian universities to help students, graduates, and all local talents.”

Also present at the event were Amer Murad, CIO & SVP Global Business Operations at Corel and Mr Yamal Matabadul, Chief Executive Officer of Polytechnics Mauritius and Ms. Nishtee Gopee, Programme Lead IT and Emerging Technologies of Polytechnics Mauritius.

Commenting on Corel and its potential for collaboration with Polytechnics Mauritius, Mr Matabadul said, “Corel is undoubtedly a company that offers extraordinary opportunities to the students of Polytechnics Mauritius. I believe that our collaboration with them will offer the students a highly valuable experience and that the students will also benefit from the Corel solutions presented as well. We are really looking forward to working with them.”
