Africa ESG, AIFAM Forum to take place on August 24-25

Combing two flagship conferences, the 8th Annual Africa ESG Forum & 7th Annual Africa Investment Funds and Asset Management Forum 2022, is slated to take place spanning over two days on August 24 and 25 at Flic en Flac, Mauritius. Themed, “Enhancing long-term investment performance through sustainable investing”, both conferences the Africa ESG Forum and Africa Investment Funds and Asset Management (AIFAM) Forum carry various objectives such as assessing the penetration of ESG integration and impact investing in Africa; focusing significantly on risks pertaining to impact investing and ESG integration serving as an opportunity for asset owners, institutional investors and investment professionals to explore practical issues linked with ESG integration in portfolio management.

Discussions will also hinge on the role played by pension and retirement funds to help drive ESG integration, Private Equity and ESG consideration, Hedge funds’ appetite for ESG integration, ESG and real asset classes such as Agribusiness, Commodities, Energy, and Real Estate.

The AIFAM Forum will bring together several stakeholders such as a delegation of government representatives, asset managers, private equity specialists, and insurance companies under one roof to discuss issues to help boost investment in Africa. The two-day forum will also help identify key areas to deepen executive education for fund trustees with emphasis on fund management, setting and monitoring investment policy, investment strategies and sustainable investing, among others.

ESG and alternative investments have gained significance as a theme to the intention of private stakeholders for a couple of years taking into account that the investment community is continuously embarking on a path to buttress their commitment to curb key global challenges stressed in the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP)’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

The event will be unveiled by the Minister of Financial Services and Good Governance Mahen Seeruttun where discussions are set to take place on key themes such as, “Future Uncertainty: Key ESG/Impact Trends Changing The World”, panel discussions on “Getting To Grips With The Responsible Investment Puzzle” centering on the African landscape with the participation of the Regional Managing Director  at IQEQ Mauritius Mr. Sridhar Nagarajan while the CEO at the Botswana Stock Exchange Mr. Thapelo Tsheole will be a part in the session, “ESG and Listing Requirements On Stock Exchanges.”

Highlights for the event’s second day will include a speech by the Governor at the Bank of Mauritius (BoM) Mr. Harvesh Kumar Seegolam on the theme, “Going Beyond A Compelling Investment Narrative”, throwing insights into an excess of USD 700bn of total annual investments made into Africa through the Mauritius route, to make it emerge as the gateway for African and global investment funds and managers investing into the continent. As the local jurisdiction maintains its trajectory to pose itself in terms of financial offering and access to the global investment community, the session will also explore how Mauritius is leveraging its position to crowd in local and global institutional capital.

Set against this backdrop, the MNCapital Group leveraging on the support of its strategic partner has been conducting a country-specific programme for a decade-plus to offer platforms to benefit key players in the investment community and policymakers while ensuring they make concerted efforts to engage with one another on investment opportunity pertaining to that particular jurisdiction and efforts to be undertaken to move beyond just investment discussion to deal signing.

Platform Africa is one of the main media sponsors for the 8th Annual Africa ESG Forum & 7th Annual Africa Investment Funds and Asset Management Forum 2022.
