According to the project estimates, the installation should cover almost all of the current energy needs of the centre, generating an average production of almost 2,500 kWh per month.

The Foundation currently supports 72 children, adolescents and young adults aged between five and 38 years old and living with an intellectual disability. Its action is based on a multidisciplinary approach provided by a team composed of administrative staff, specialized teachers, teaching assistants as well as professionals from the medico-social sector.

Head of Sustainability, Reputation & Commitment of the MCB Group, Vanessa de Speville commented: “Through the MCB Forward Foundation, we remain committed to supporting and implementing social projects. This project is particularly close to our hearts, because it embodies a double scope which is rich in meaning: it is directly linked to our objective of contributing to the energy transition and to the protection of our environment, while supporting the Georges Charles Foundation in improving the daily lives of the children and young people who are welcomed there. This double impact, environmental and human, reflects our conviction that a successful project is not limited only to a technical dimension.”

President of the Executive Committee of the Foundation Georges Charles, Roland Dubois underlined, “This project fully adheres to the national vision of promoting renewable energies and gradually reducing Mauritius’ dependence on fossil fuels. By supporting this initiative, the MCBFF demonstrates that it is possible to reconcile social commitment and environmental responsibility. For children and young people with intellectual disabilities, this project is a source of hope. It offers them a more modern, more sustainable and more environmentally friendly learning environment, while allowing the Foundation to devote more resources to its educational, therapeutic and inclusion programs.”
