A celebration beyond the workplace
At Intercontinental Trust Ltd (ITL), the workplace recently became a little more colourful, convivial and delicious as colleagues came together for a special Bring & Share celebration.
More than simply an opportunity to enjoy a good meal, the event provided a chance for colleagues to step away from their usual routines, connect and celebrate the rich cultural diversity that is part of Mauritius – and of ITL itself, as a leading management company and employer of choice.
Staff were divided into groups, with each team taking responsibility for preparing and serving a different cuisine. The three main groups showcased the distinctive flavours of Mauritian, Indian and Chinese cuisines, bringing together an array of dishes that reflected the island’s multicultural heritage. Adding a particularly sweet touch to the occasion, ITL’s Senior Managers took responsibility for desserts and drinks.
The result was a celebration of food, culture and community – with each contribution telling its own story.
Teamwork behind the scenes
While the food was at the heart of the celebration, the real work began several weeks before the event.
A successful Bring & Share requires more than simply bringing a dish to the table. Teams worked together to decide what they would prepare, organise ingredients, coordinate responsibilities and plan how the food would be cooked and served.
The preparation itself became part of the experience, encouraging colleagues from different teams to work together towards a shared goal. It was an opportunity to collaborate in a setting very different from the usual workplace environment, with creativity, organisation and a healthy dose of enthusiasm all playing their part.
The Big Day: From kitchen to table
When the big day arrived, the kitchens across all three floors of ITL’s offices became busy hubs of activity.
Staff gathered to prepare and cook their dishes, while others took responsibility for serving and, afterwards, making sure everything was cleaned and left in order. The kitchens were filled not only with the aromas of different cuisines, but also with conversation, laughter and plenty of interaction.
For many colleagues, it was an opportunity to mingle with people they may not normally work closely with, during the day. The relaxed atmosphere encouraged conversations beyond projects, deadlines and meetings, helping colleagues get to know one another on a more personal level.
In this way, the Bring & Share became much more than a shared lunch. It created a space for team bonding, helping strengthen relationships across teams and fostering a greater sense of belonging.
Celebrating the flavours of a diverse Mauritius
The choice of Mauritian, Indian and Chinese cuisines was particularly fitting in a country renowned for its multicultural heritage.
Each cuisine brought its own flavours, traditions and character to the table, while the collective meal reflected something larger: the way different cultures come together to form the unique social fabric of Mauritius.
For ITL, that diversity is also reflected within its own people. Bringing colleagues together around food provided a natural and enjoyable way to celebrate those differences while recognising the common values of friendship, collaboration and community that unite the organisation.

Ultimately, ITL’s Bring & Share was about much more than food.
The dishes provided the attraction, but it was the teamwork, generosity, cultural sharing and friendship behind them that added the real ingredients and made the event truly special. From the weeks of preparation to the cooking, serving, sharing and cleaning, colleagues contributed collectively to create an experience that everyone could enjoy.
The event was a timely reminder that a strong workplace is built not only around professional expertise and shared objectives, but also around the relationships between the people who make up the organisation – a true recipe for lasting success.
