Chief Justice of India, Hon’ble Shri Justice Bhushan Ramakrishna Gavai arrived for a three-day official visit to Mauritius at the invitation of the Hon’ble Chief Justice of Mauritius, Mrs. Rehana Bibi Mungly-Gulbul. Upon arrival, Hon’ble Chief Justice and his family participated in the Gandhi Jayanti celebrations at the Mahatma Gandhi Institute (MGI) in Mauritius and paid floral tributes to the Father of the Nation on his birth anniversary. MGI is a collaboration between India and Mauritius to promote Indian Culture.

As part of his agenda, the Hon’ble Chief Justice called on Head of State H.E. Mr. Dharambeer Gokhool, where both discussed the multifaceted India-Mauritius partnership, including the strong educational partnership and ties between judicial institutions. He also made a call on the Prime Minister on Dr. the Hon. Navinchandra Ramgoola,m where discussions focused on the vibrant cultural connect and people-to-people ties underpinning the long-standing India-Mauritius relationship. PM Ramgoolam fondly spoke about his recent successful state visit to India. The Hon’ble Chief Justice also held talks with the Deputy Prime Minister, Paul Berenger speaking about the enduring historical and cultural ties that bind the two countries together.

On his Facebook page, the PM posted: “Received a courtesy call on Chief Justice of India Shri Bhushan Ramkrishna Gavai today in the presence of Attorney General Mr Gavin Glover and High Commissioner of India in Mauritius Shri Anurag Shrivastava. This meeting is part of strengthening historical and institutional links between India and Mauritius. Discussions focused on judicial cooperation and experience sharing in the fields of law and administration of justice.”
During the evening, the Hon’ble Chief Justice of Mauritius hosted an official dinner in honour of the Hon’ble Chief Justice of India.
